Brumbies will play in the Super Rugby final for the first time in nine years when they take on the Waikato Chiefs.

Brumbies coach Jake White lured Rathbone out of retirement, and despite spending three years on the sideline he has a chance to claim his second Super Rugby title.

Rathbone's life has paralleled the Brumbies' success. He was flying high when the club was the most dominant in the competition and was part of the championship-winning team in 2004.

He played for the Wallabies and was at the peak of his powers as a destructive winger. Then the injuries hit. At the same time the Brumbies missed the finals and when Rathbone retired in 2009, neither he nor the club had experienced the highs of years gone by.

Enjoy to wBrumbies have recorded one of their greatest ever victories after a last ditch try sunk the Bulls in Pretoria to win through to their first Super Rugby final in nine years.

Down by four points with less than two minutes on the clock, five-eighth Matt Toomua broke the line before slipping a flat pass to centre Tevita Kuridrani for the match-winning try.

However Bulls captain Dewald Potgieter controversially turned down three penalty goals to kick for the corner while one point up in the final 13 minutes.

Christian Lealiifano converted tries by fullback Jesse Mogg and Kuridrani to add to his four penalties while centre JJ Engelbrecht crossed for the Bulls' only try and Steyn kicked six penalties.

The Brumbies now turn their attention to the Chiefs, who beat fellow New Zealanders the Crusaders 20-19 earlier on Saturday.

Brumbies into Tremendous Rugby closing right after fantastic earn more than Bulls

Brumbies celebrated a dramatic 26-23 Super Rugby semi-final win over South African favourites the Bulls in Pretoria with a last-ditch try.temptation to prove the doubters wrong would have been immense. Indeed, a lesser coach lacking in belief, conviction and clarity. News links : theguardian.com

Brumbies for sponsorship reasons known as the University of Canberra Brumbies and formerly known as the ACT Brumbies are a Super Rugby rugby union team based in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and named for the wild horses which inhabit Canberra's hinterland. The team represents the ACT and southern New South Wales (NSW) regions.
The Brumbies were formed in 1996 to provide a third Australian franchise for the newly formed Super 12 (now Super Rugby) competition. It was predicted that the Brumbies, made up of so-called 'reject' — players not wanted by the other two teams — would perform poorly. Since then, they have enjoyed more success than all the other Australian teams combined, reaching five finals and winning two.
The Brumbies play in navy blue, white and gold kits. The team plays at Canberra Stadium (formerly known as Bruce Stadium) in Canberra and is currently coached by Jake White, who replaced Andy Friend after the 2011 season. The 2012 season will see a new captain, with Ben Mowen captaining the side.

Rugby union football has a long history in the ACT. The British Isles opened their 1899 tour of Australia with a match in Goulburn. However, it was not until 1938 that the ACT Rugby Union was finally established. Four clubs made up the first local competition; University, Easts, RMC and Norths. Also that year, a representative ACT side faced off against the All Blacks, losing 5 to 56.[citation needed]
The first international victory for an ACT representative side was in 1973, when they defeated Tonga 17 points to six. In 1978 an ACT side defeated Wales, who were Five Nations champions at the time. ACT had trailed at half time, 6 to 16, but came back and won with a penalty kick in the final moments of the match. The Brumbies are also due to play Wales on Tuesday 12 June 2012, which is part of the Welsh tour of Australia 2012.

ACT defeated NSW 44 to 28 at Sydney's Concord Oval in 1994, which led the way for the ACT to become a franchise, and be included in the new professional international Super 12 competition, alongside the Reds and Waratahs. ACT became Australia's third provincial team in the new competition, known officially as the ACT Brumbies.[citation needed]
In the inaugural Super 12 season, under coach Rod Macqueen, the Brumbies actually finished fifth on the table after the regular season, narrowly missing out on a finals position. The following season was even more successful as the Brumbies entered the 1997 Super 12 Final, but lost to the Auckland Blues.[citation needed]
Eddie Jones took over as head coach in 1998, but the Brumbies fell to tenth place on the 1998 season ladder. However, the following season saw a big improvement, as they finished fifth for the second time in their Super rugby history, just missing out on the finals. In 2000, the Brumbies made it to the 2000 Super 12 Final for the second time, and were actually hosting it as well. They were however beaten by the Crusaders, by just the one point, losing 19 to 20.[citation needed]

Chiefs speaking up Brumbies problem forward of 2013 Super Rugby FInal

Chiefs don't expect travel fatigue to play a role when they host the Brumbies in a most unexpected Super Rugby final on Saturday. The defending champions upset the recent form book with a breathtaking 20-19 semi-final win over the Crusaders at Waikato Stadium.

Hours later the Brumbies conjured a greater upset, toppling the Bulls 26-23 courtesy of a last-gasp try in Pretoria to reach their first final in nine years. News from : 3news.co.nz

Chiefs (formerly known as the Waikato Chiefs) are a professional rugby union team based in Hamilton, New Zealand and are the current Super Rugby champions. Their home ground is Waikato Stadium. The Chiefs play in black, red and yellow coloured jerseys. The team competes in the Super Rugby competition known as the Super 12 from 1996 to 2005, Super 14 from 2006–2010 and Super Rugby from 2011 onwards. The Chiefs are one of the competition's five New Zealand sides.
Until 2004, the Chiefs were the only New Zealand side to never have qualified for the Super 12 semi-finals. In that year the Chiefs earned their first semi-final berth, and in the end achieved 4th place (defeated 37-20 in the semi-final by the ACT Brumbies). They made the 2009 final but found themselves on the short end of a record 61–17 defeat by the Bulls.
The Chiefs were rewarded with a home final after a strong 2012 season. Their opponents, the Sharks, went into the match as underdogs. The Chiefs defeated the Sharks 37-6 winning their first Super Rugby title.

Chiefs were founded in 1995 as the Waikato Chiefs for the inaugural Super 12 season in 1996. Prior to the Super 12, the Super 10 competition had been in place, which NPC teams took part in, including Waikato. In the first year of competition the Chiefs placed 6th in the overall standings, missing out on making the finals; winning 6 of their 11 regular season matches. The following season the Chiefs placed 11th, winning 4 games and losing 7. In 1998 the Chiefs performed closer to the standard of their 1996 season and placed at 7th in the final standings. In 1999 the side were able to do one better and claimed 6th position on the ladder but were still yet to make the playoffs.
In 2000 the Chiefs won 3 of their regular season games and finished the regular season in 10th place. The following season the team equalled their best position again - finishing 6th. In 2002 the team won 4 games and lost 7 to finish in 8th position, and the season after, 2003 Super 12 season, fell to a 10th place finish. But the season after, the Chiefs won 7 regular season games and came 4th on the ladder - claiming the first semi-final spot in their history. The Chiefs lost the semi-final against the Brumbies. In 2005 the team finished 6th. In 2006, the Super 12 expanded to the Super 14, with the addition of a new Australian and South African club. The Chiefs won 7 of their 13 games and drew once with 5 losses to come 7th. In 2009, the Chiefs made their second ever semi-final, defeating the Hurricanes 14 - 10 to advance to the final for the first time. They lost the final to the Bulls by the biggest-ever margin of 61-17. In the 2010 and 2011 seasons, they were unable to replicate their form of 2009, missing the playoffs in both seasons.
In 2012, the Chiefs finished at the top of the New Zealand conference, qualifying for a home semi-final, which they won, defeating the Crusaders 20-17. They subsequently hosted the final for the first time in the teams's history, comprehensively defeating the Sharks by 37 - 6, claiming their first title. They also set many club records in the 2012 season, including: most home wins, best home streak, best season winning streak, and most points and tries scored.[1]
In 2013, the Chiefs again won the New Zealand confrence with a regular-season record of 12 wins and four losses. They also won the BNZ Cup, a new trophy established by the NZRU for the New Zealand side with the best record in intra-conference matches.

2013 Super Rugby Latest News, update, preview, Tv Feed

2013 Super Rugby season was the third season of the new 15-team format for the Super Rugby competition involving teams from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. For sponsorship reasons, this competition is known as FxPro Super Rugby in Australia, Investec Super Rugby in New Zealand and Vodacom Super Rugby in South Africa. Including its past incarnations as Super 12 and Super 14, this was the 18th season for the Southern Hemisphere's premier transnational club competition. The conference matches took place every weekend from 15 February until 13 July (with a break between rounds 17 and 18 for internationals games), followed by the finals series, culminating in the grand final on 3 August. This season saw the Kings of South Africa enter the competition for the first time, having replaced the under-performing Lions

Covering 25 weeks, the schedule featured a total of 125 matches. The 15 teams were grouped by geography, labelled the Australian Conference, New Zealand Conference and the South African Conference. The regular season consisted of two types of matches:[2]
  • Internal Conference Matches – Each team played the other four teams in the same conference twice, home and away.
  • Cross Conference Matches – Each team played four teams of the other two conferences away, and four teams of the other two conferences home, thus missing out on two teams (one from each of the other conferences). Each team played two home and two away games against teams from each of the other countries, making a total of eight cross conference games for each team.
The top team of each conference, plus the next top three teams in table points regardless of conference (wild card teams), moved on to the finals. The top two conference winners, based on table points, received first-round byes. In the first round of the finals, the third conference winner was the #3 seed and hosted the wild card team with the worst record, and the best wild card team hosted the second-best wild card team. In the semi-finals, the #2 conference winner hosted the higher surviving seed from the first round, and the #1 conference winner hosted the other first-round winner. The final is hosted by the top remaining seed.[3]
In addition, a two-legged promotion/relegation play-off took place at the end of the season between the bottom team in the South African Conference and the Lions, with the winner qualifying for Super Rugby in 2014. Source : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_Super_Rugby_season
